{"id":631,"date":"2020-12-01T02:51:31","date_gmt":"2020-12-01T02:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ftd.cognihealth.in\/?page_id=631"},"modified":"2025-01-27T04:01:41","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T04:01:41","slug":"understanding-fnd","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pre-prod.neurosymptoms.org\/en\/treatment\/understanding-fnd\/","title":{"rendered":"Understanding FND"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t read the pages on &#8216;<a href=\"\/en_US\/causes\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1010\">causes<\/a>&#8216; yet, you may find it helpful to do so before reading on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are hardly ever &#8216;quick fixes&#8217; for FND, but there are \u201cslow fixes\u201d that with time and effort can make symptoms less intrusive and allow you to feel better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People I&#8217;ve met who do improve say that one of the most important factors in recovery seems to be whether the diagnosis and explanation they were given made sense to them \u2013 perhaps not immediately, but eventually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key steps seem to be appreciating that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>You have something common \u2013 you are&nbsp;<strong>not weird<\/strong><\/li><li>You do have something genuine \u2013 you are not&nbsp;<strong>imagining it<\/strong><\/li><li>You have symptoms that are&nbsp;<strong>potentially reversible<\/strong><\/li><li>It&#8217;s&nbsp;<strong>not your fault&nbsp;<\/strong>that you have these symptoms<\/li><li>But&nbsp;<strong>you will need to put some work in to getting better<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If your doctor has sent your clinic letter to you, read it and try to understand it. Reading through this website may help you to understand your condition more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can get to a point where you think the diagnosis makes sense, you no longer feel concerned about the possibility of another diagnosis, you realise that lots of other people have this too and it is something you can potentially get better from then this is a good start for treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personally, I think spending time with a health professional understanding  your diagnosis of FND and gaining confidence about why it&#8217;s been made is an important <em>starting point <\/em>for treatment. But it&#8217;s just a starting point for the majority of people.
